used that way. No certificate maker should ever have included it (and I've never heard of that as it would always indicate a scam CA as you cannot own that domain by definition).

The Majority if not all did add the .local, .lan and others, unless you think all CA are scams then I wouldn't say they are a scam.

Yeah from a quick search looks like at least GoDaddy and Digicert offered them.

Nov 2015 is when CA/Browser Forum set the standard to not allow internal domains. So looks like most if not all would have supported it before that.

      https://cabforum.org/internal-names/

Damn, that's a major security hole! So I could go get a cert issued for a domain someone else used and there had to be zero verification since.... there was nothing to verify!

      Yup.

I was saying bad faith in the other direction, attempting to start a business under the same name as a domain name that was already in use.

He clearly states it's for a brand, not a company.

Same thing, though. Attempting to start a new brand that is already in use.

Purchased and parked is not in use. It is “available for the right price.”

Is no one reading what I wrote? I specified everything that people have said in my original statement.

I paid $1.50 for the first year. It also depends on the domain. A lot of .coms are significantly higher.

They are all the same price. Those that are higher are not available and you are buying ones that someone already owns.

If you only have Samba controllers, hell it might work.

that's the normal way to use it. Mixing it in would just be weird. Lots of companies run on just it, it works great from what I hear. I've never heard of a shop that had issues after moving to it. It's full AD with all the bells and whistles. You can even manage it from Windows and GPOs work great too.

I saw somewhere online someone set up an environment that way and used RSAT from a Windows 7 computer to do GPO and users/computers.
